KARACHI, May 12: Prime Minister Mir Zafarullah Khan Jamali has said that the mega Gwadar deep-sea port project will bring about a sea change in the economy of the country.

He said this during a briefing on the project at the Governor’s House here on Monday.

Sindh Governor Dr Ishrat-ul-Ebad Khan, Chief Minister Sardar Ali Mohammad Khan Mahar, Balochistan Governor Abdul Qadir Baluch, Chief Minister Jam Mohammad Yousuf, and Federal Minister for Industries and Production Liaquat Ali Khan Jatoi were present.

The prime minister asked for a conducive environment to be created for the encouragement of investment in Gwadar.

He issued a directive that a complete survey should be undertaken and the local people should be consulted if and when there was any dislocation of residents for the project so that the re-settlement satisfied the residents. The prime minister also stressed the need for training the local people to handle the project when it was completed.

In this connection, he urged the authorities concerned to organize training in the engineering as well as the polytechnic sectors. The prime minister directed that only locals should be employed as labour.

Mr Jamali said the government wanted the project to be completed at a faster pace.—APP
