KARACHI: Airport officials briefly detained four US embassy officials at Karachi’s Jinnah International Airport Wednesday morning who were then sent back to Islamabad.
There was no verbal spat or scuffle. Airport officials confirmed the incident but did not elaborate why the officials were sent back.
A US embassy spokesman confirmed the incident and told Dawn.com that four embassy officials had reached Karachi from Islamabad this morning to meet with officials from the US consulate in Karachi.
He said airport officials did not allow them to enter the city and they subsequently returned to Islamabad.
"There was no verbal scuffle," the spokesman said.

Glad to hear that there was no verbal or physical scuffle. It seems like it was handled in a professional manner. Well done.

just nawaz sharif's way to show his gullible supporters that he is 'standing up' to the americans on the drone issue.

Cannot shoot down drones so instead Pakistani authorities simply harass US Embassy staff and hope news shows up in media. Pathetic.

Some Good Friends, these Pakis. Who needs enemies with friends like these.
Just remember. What goes around comes around.
While I don't know what the spat was about; you don't treat friendly (?????) diplomats this way.

Is this some new rule the Pakistanis have invented that you can refused entry into a city?

So all along they came to Spy Karachities? Com'on. They are embassy officials and were going to visit US Consulate. What was wrong with it? Had they arrived secretly then yes, it would have made sense to send them back to Islamabad. But they came via a flight and all along everyone should have known about it.

Incompleted story only creates misgivings. This should be avoided. The story should mentio the reason of detention.

What is the point of this news? No meaningful information is provided. Plus, they are not allowed to enter city via airport. How about if they drive in the city? There seems to be more to this issue than is described here.
