SWABI, June 12: A clash between two groups over a land dispute claimed lives of two brothers and a woman in Dagai area here on Wednesday, police said.

The officials said they registered a case on the complaint of Mohammad Yasir, brother of the slain men, and started search to arrest the accused.

DISPUTE RESOLUTION: The district police and members of reconciliation committee have agreed work collectively to resolve people’s disputes.

The decision was taken at a meeting chaired by Superintendent of Police Mian Mohammad Saeed on Wednesday. Members of the reconciliation committee Sabaz Ali Shah Bacha, Farrukh Siyyar Bacha, Shah Said, Mazullah and Ali Gohar, founder of Just Peace Initiatives NGO, were also in attendance.

The participants stressed the need for eradicating the ‘thana culture’. They agreed that crimes could be eliminated if the police and people cooperated. The participants said peace committees would be established at police station level who would work with police to settle disputes.

The participants said the Pakhtun society had a big problem that if minor disputes were not resolved early these led to prolonged rivalries, resulting in loss of life.

“We have helped resolve various disputes among people without approaching the police stations,” said Sabaz Ali Bacha of the reconciliation body.

Ali Gohar, another member, called for determination and spirit of hard work from the stakeholders to resolve people’s issues. He said police could always seek their help in finding amicable resolution of disputes.

The police official extended full support to the committee members in this respect.
