ISLAMABAD June 13: The Balochistan police on Thursday formally arrested Gen (retired) Pervez Musharraf in the Akbar Bugti murder case.
A three-member team of the Balochistan police - DIG Sardar Abdul Majeed, AIG Noshad Younus and the investigation officer of the case - reached the farmhouse sub-jail of Musharraf and made his arrest.
Later, the police approached the judicial magistrate of Shahzad Town and sought judicial remand of the accused, which was granted. The police later interrogated the former military ruler and left the sub-jail.
When contacted, AIG Noshad Younus told Dawn that after making the arrest of the former president, the police had got his judicial remand and detained him in the sub-jail under the guard of the prison police. After completion of the legal formalities, the team left Islamabad, he added.
The AIG said the team also interrogated the accused in connection with the Bugti murder case. “We cannot share the detail about the interrogation with the media.”
He said the hearing of the Bugti murder case was likely to be held in a court set up on the direction of the capital administration in the sub-jail. “We have requested to the high court of Balochistan to transfer the hearing of the murder case to Islamabad,” he added.
The request was made keeping in view of the threats to the former president, he added.
Most likely, the hearing of the case will be transferred to Islamabad and the judge concerned from Balochistan will hear the case in the farmhouse sub-jail, he added.
The police team will again come to Islamabad to produce the accused in the court of the judicial magistrate on June 27.
