LAHORE, June 17: Three matches were decided on the first day of the 3rd Prof Syed Fida Hussain Shah PHF Inter-academy Hockey Championship in Abbottabad on Monday.

In the first match, Lahore outplayed Karachi-I 3-1.

For the winning side Ahad Afzal (8th minute), Naveed (30th) and Moeen (35th) were the scorers. For the losing side the solitary goal came through Kamil in the 42nd minute.

In the second match, Peshawar overpowered the second sting of Karachi thanks to a match-winner by Samiullah in the 14th minute.

Farman Hussain (2nd minute), gave an early lead to Peshawar, but Karachi-II restored the parity in the 11th minute through Ehtesham Furqan, before Samiullah converted a penalty-stroke to seal the fate of the match.

Gojra also notched up a 4-3 win against a fighting Abbottabad side. While Gojra earned the goals through Hanan Anwar (14th), Faizan (29th), Hassan Saleem (35th) and M Ramzan (41st), the losers reduced the margin of lead through Ramiz (11th), Azan Ali (40th) and Atif (45th).

Tuesday’s fixtures:

Bahawalpur v Faisalabad; Quetta v Karachi-I; Bannu v Sialkot; Peshawar v Abbottabad.
