KARACHI, June 20: A man and his teenage son who had been kidnapped on Wednesday night were found shot dead on Thursday in the old city area, Garden police said.

The officials added that Abdul Wahid, 53, and his son, Mohammad Bilal, 18, had been kidnapped from their shop in the Kalakot area on Wednesday night.

The victims had been tortured and shot dead before their bodies were stuffed in gunny bags and thrown at a garbage dump near Dhobi Ghat in Garden, the police added.

Garden SHO Saleemullah Khan said it seemed they had been killed somewhere else and their bodies were later thrown in Garden.

The victims were residents of Soldier Bazaar, the police said. They suspected that the killings could be the result of prevailing tension in the locality.

SDPO of Garden Zahid Hussain said the shop was situated next to the home of a young man, Arsalan, who had recently been killed and whose funeral was held on Wednesday. He said an investigation was under way to find out if the father and son were kidnapped in ‘reaction’.

Hospital employee killed A young employee of the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital was shot dead in Orangi, police said.

An official at the Pakistan Bazaar police station said that Kaleem aka Commando, 37, was passing through Islam Chowk on his motorcycle when four armed men riding two motorcycles opened fire on him and fled. He sustained five bullets in his head fired from 9mm pistol and died on the spot.

“Kaleem Commando was a former political worker,” said Pakistan Bazaar SHO Bashir Ahmed.

The victim’s nephew, Mohammad Shahid, lodged a case against unidentified killers, the police said.

CPO employee killed A Naib Qasid (peon) of the central police office was shot dead in the Baghdadi area, officials said.

They added that Rashid Anwar, 38, apart from his job in the police, ran a paan shop near the TPX police quarters where he resided. He was at his shop when he was attacked. He was rushed to the Civil Hospital Karachi where he died during treatment.

The police suspected the murder could be related to the ‘ongoing tension’ in the old city areas.

‘Gang member’ gunned down A suspected gang member was shot dead in Surjani, police said.

They added that Meraj Mohammad Khan, 28, was targeted in Khuda Ki Basti.

“Meraj was a member of the Arshad Papu gang,” said Surjani SHO Shabbir Ahmed.

The body was shifted to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital for a post-mortem examination, the police said.

Youth’s body found A young man was found shot dead in Sohrab Goth, police said.

They added that the body was spotted in the bushes behind Gana Mandi on the Superhighway.

He was identified as Noor Hasan, 23, with the help of an identity card found in his pocket, the police said, adding that the victim was a resident of Waziristan. The body was shifted to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital, they said.

ST activist killed A worker of the Sunni Tehreek was shot dead in New Karachi on Thursday, the police said.They added that 35-year-old Khalid Iqbal was riding a motorcycle near his residence in Sector-5-L when armed motorcyclists fired a single shot at his head from a close range, which proved fatal.

“Mr Iqbal was a worker of the ST,” said SHO Changez Khan.
