MINGORA, June 23: Sultan Golden, a world renowned stuntman, claimed on Sunday that he had achieved a new world record by demonstrating a ramp to ramp jump over 13 cars here at Ushu forest ground, Kalam, during the four-day Swat summer festival.

If his claim is accepted, he will beat the world record of a French jumper, who had crossed over 12 cars. Mr Golden jumped over 13 Corolla cars and succeeded to cross all the cars, but his vehicle’s front wheels struck the corner of the landing ramp and hit the last car. He came out of his vehicle safe and sound and raised his hands to celebrate the victory. Spectators stood up and gave him a warm appreciation.

Talking to Dawn, Mr Golden claimed that he had successfully broken the world record of ramp to ramp jumping. He said that he would claim his new record for Guinness Book of World Records.

He said that the ramp on the landing side lost support and collapsed as soon as his car landed on it.

“We prepared the ramps in a hurry, which were not fixed strongly enough to absorb impact of the landing vehicle,” he said.

Mr Golden demonstrated the jump after 2002. He had already demonstrated a reverse jump over five cars and recorded his name in the Guinness Book.

“I want to better my own world record and this time I am planning to attempt a reverse jump over seven or eight cars,” Mr Golden said and added that the government should support him in this regard.

Thousands of people were present at Ushu ground to see the mega event of the festival. Core Commander, Peshawar, Lt-Gen Khalid Rabbani was the chief guest on the concluding session of the four-day summer festival while GOC Swat Maj-Gen Sanaullah and other military and civil officials were also among the audience.

On the final day of the summer festival, army commandos demonstrated a free fall jump from a height of 15,000 feet, while other events including motorbike display, archery and horse dancing were also held.

At the end, the corps commander distributed shields and certificates among the organisers of various events. On this occasion, he said that the Swat summer festival was meant to promote tourism and convey a message to the entire world that Swat was now a peaceful place.
