SANGHAR, June 27: Pakistan Muslim League-Functional (PML-F) candidate Jam Madad Ali was declared the winning candidate for the by-election on PS-81 held in the constituency on Wednesday, according to unofficial results.

The by-election had to be held after the PPP MPA-elect Muhammad Khan Junejo was disqualified for having a fake degree.

There were two contestants in the bypoll: PML-F’s Jam Madad Ali and PPP’s Asghar Ali Junaid Junejo.

According to unofficial results, Jam Madad Ali received 35,548 votes while his opponent received 34,175, giving the PML-F candidate a lead of 1,373 votes.

Out of the total 127,292 voters in the constituency, 72,833 people — 57.2 per cent — cast their votes with the turnout for men being 40,464 while 32,369 women came out to vote.—BoC
