Qureshi-Rojer reach Wimbledon 3rd round after thriller

Pakistan’s Aisam-ul-Haq Qureshi and Dutch partner Jean-Julien Rojer saw off the fighting duo of Xavier Malisse of Belgium and Ken Skupski of Germany in a five-set thriller to reach the Men’s doubles third round at Wimbledon on Saturday.
Qureshi and Rojer began in dominating fashion, requiring just 25 minutes to take the first set 6-3. Malisse and Skupski, however, rallied back bravely to push the match to the limit but eventually fell against their much-experienced opponents 6-3, 6-7, 6-3, 6-7, 8-6.

One would only call a match a thriller if the pairs were somewhat equal in ratings. Unfortunately, in the past 8 months or so, Aisam and Roger have routinely lost to pairs rated 50 to 100 places below them. Even in minor ATP tournaments where they were seeded 1st , they were eliminated
in the first or second round. Their first 3 matches have been close where a point or two the other way, and they would have been eliminated. And on grass to boot, which Aisam claims to be his strongest surface. It is sad to say, that in my opinion, now the only way Aisam is heading is down. The beginning of the end of his career is at hand. I would not be surprised if he ends the year at # 17 or so from the current # 12 . End of 2014 he will be rated around # 28 to 30. Mark my words.
