CHITRAL, June 29: Unknown miscreants hurled stones at the house of local rights activist Niaz A Niazi advocate and set on fire his car parked in the garage of his house the other night.
An official of local police station told Dawn that Mr Niazi had not nominated any person in the report. However, he said that the police were investigating different persons in the locality after registering a case under sections 435 and 457 of the PPC against unidentified persons.
The lawyer, who heads Human Rights Programme Chitral (HRPC), was not present in his home at the time of incident. When contacted, Mr Niazi said that he had no enmity with anyone, but he had been protesting against the rights violations with special reference to the growing cases of suicides of girls in Chitral.
Meanwhile, the district bar association in a meeting demanded of the government to arrest those responsible for the incident and provide security to lawyers of the area.
PRAISED: The office-bearers of Young Stars Development Organisation, Chitral, including Kifayatullah and Safeer Ahmed, have appreciated the Chitral Integrated Area Development Organisation for completing projects in hitherto neglected areas.
Speaking at a press conference here on Saturday, they said that the foreign-funded project had focused on the development of backward areas of Arandu, Damil and Drosh. They claimed that the projects were identified by the local communities and completed with their participation.
