KARACHI, April 20: Top two seeds — Abdul Rehman and Mustafa Tariq — were through to the singles final of the third AKU Inter-university tennis tournament at the AKU hard courts on Friday evening.

Top seed Rehman was awarded the semi-final when his opponent Aamir Darvesh retired hurt midway through the second set while trailing 0-3. Earlier, Rehman had won the opener 6-1.

Tariq accounted for Ahmed Zaheer 6-3, 6-2 in the other fixture.

Meanwhile, Iqra University defeated Aga Khan University Whites 3-2 to qualify for the team event final.

In another match, Institute of Business Administration (IBA) defeated Aga Khan University Greens by the identical score of 3-2.

Faizan Kazi bt Zakaria Alam 6-2, 6-1; Abdul Rehman bt M. Waleed 6-0, 6-0; Jazib Bin Jamal lost to Hashim Jilani 2-6, 1-6; M. Rayyan lost to Umair Shaikh 3-6, 1-6; Abdul Rehman and Faizan Kazi bt Umair Shaikh and Zakaria Alam 6-0, 6-1.

Iqra University bt Aga Khan University Whites 3-2.

Farhan Altaf bt Daniyal Hashmi 6-0, 6-0; Aamir Darvesh bt M. Ahsan 6-2, 6-0; Asad Hussain lost to Aneeq Waqar 1-6, 3-6; M. Umer bt Syed Shabee Hassan 7-5, 3-6, 12-10; Aamir Darvesh and Farhan Altaf conceded to Daniyal Hashmi and M. Ahsan (walkover).
