Islamabad, May 2: Saba Aziz and Sara Mansoor reached the final of the Subh-e-Nau Clay Court tennis championship here at the Islamabad Club on Thursday.
Both the finalists are top seeded players who faced no resistance from their respective opponents with Saba defeating Meheq Khokhar in first semi-final while Sara won her match against Mahin Aftab in straight sets.
They will be up against each other on Friday in the title decider.
Also, Mohammad Abid qualified for semi-finals of the men’s singles having recorded an easy victory against Fahad in the men’s singles event.
Abid will face Mohammad Mudassar in the first semi-final with the latter defeating Usman Rafique, who couldn’t continue after losing the first set, in second quarter-final of the day.
Likewise, second seed Usman Ijaz defeated Raja Shahid in third quarter-final. He will face Ahmed Choudhary, who has won his match against Imad Amir, in second semi-final.
Mohammad Mudassar reached semi-final of the boys’ U-18 after an easy victory against Asadullah with the former taking on his younger brother Mohammad Muzammil who has won against Salman bin Saleem.
A ball boy and player Waqas Baig played well against another ball boy Hasnain Amjad in third quarter-final. He will play against Arham Atique in the second semi-final of boys’ U-18.
Mohammad Muzammil and Aman Atique will lock horns for boys’ U-14 title with Muzammil winning against Haris Irfan-ul-Haq in the semi-final. Haris played very well but could not win the match while Aman also had to work hard to defeat Huzaifa Abdul Rehman.
Meanwhile, the Subh-e-Nau introduced boys’ U-14 doubles for the first time in the national tennis circuit. Though the event received lower number of entries, it was a successful experience and widely appreciated by parents and players. Only three pairs sent their entries for the maiden U-14 doubles event.
Pair of Aman Atique and Huzaifa Abdul Rehman defeated Hamza bin Rehan and Maaz Naeem in the semi-final of the U-14 doubles event.
Also, the winning pair — Aman Atique and Huzaifa Abdul Rehman — played the final against Mohammad Muzammil and his partner Haris Irfanulhaq who lost the final to Aman and Huzaifa.
