KARACHI, May 3: Iqra University (IU), Pakistan Naval Engineering College (PNEC), Hamdard University (HU) and Bahria University (BU) reached the semi-finals of the 11th AKU Inter-University Football Tournament after victories in their respective last-eight clashes here on Thursday.

IU recorded a 2-1 extra-time victory against the National University of Science and Technology (NUST) in a pulsating quarter-final which had ended goalless at full-time.

Amjad Khan and Asad Abbas then scored in five extra-time minutes to set up a last-four clash against the PNEC.

Bashar Ilyas scored a second-half brace as the PNEC secured a spot in the semis after a 3-1 victory over the Sir Syed University of Engineering and Technology (SSUET).

HU, aided by Abdul Malik’s hat-trick recorded a convincing 4-2 victory against the Institute of Business Administration (IBA) and will play BU for a spot in the final.

BU prevailed 3-2 in a penalty shootout against hosts Aga Khan University (AKU) after the match had ended goalless after extra-time.—Sports Reporter
