SIALKOT, May 12: The Pakistan Muslim League-N (PML-N) won all five National Assembly (NA) and 11 Punjab Province (PP) seats of the district in the May 11 elections.

PML-N’s central leader Khwaja Asif won elections for NA-110 for the fifth consecutive time. Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) candidate for NA-110 Dr Firdous Ashiq Awan withdrew from the race and announced her support for Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf’s (PTI’s) Usman Dar but it did make a little difference as Mr Asif managed to win the seat with a margin of 20,000 votes. In NA-111, PPP’s Dr Awan was defeated by PML-N’s Chaudhry Armughan Subhani. In NA-112 Sambrial, PML-N’s Rana Shamim Ahmed defeated PPP’s Chaudhry Ejaz Ahmed Cheema and PTI’s Salman Saif Cheema.

PML-N’s Syed Iftikharul Hasan Shah defeated PTI’s Mirza Abdul Qayyum and PML-Q’s Chaudhry Ali Asjad Malhi in NA-113.

The PML-N also won NA-114 where its candidate Zahid Hamid defeated PTI’s Syed Akhtar Husain Rizvi, independent candidate Chaudhry Ghulam Abbas and PML-Q-backed Rana Yasir Islam.

The PML-N also won 11 PA seats in the district: Rana Arif Iqbal Harnah (PP-121, Chaudhry Muhammad Ikram (PP-122), Khwaja Muhammad Asif (PP-123), Rana Abdul Sattar (PP-124), Chaudhry Tariq Akhtar Subhani (PP-125), Rana Liaqat Ali (PP-126), Chaudhry Munawar Ali Gill (PP-127), Rana Muhammad Afzal (PP-128), Mohsin Jamil Ashraf (PP-129), Muhammad Asif Bajwa (PP-130) and Arshad Javaid Warraich (PP-131).

PTI Chairman Imran Khan had addressed mammoth public meetings in Sialkot, Pasrur, Zafarwal, Shakargarh and Narowal during the election campaign, but the party could not get any seat in Sialkot and Narowal districts.

AWAN: PPP’s stalwart Dr Firdous Ashiq Awan has accepted her defeat, saying that she honored public mandate.

She told reporters that she did her best for the welfare of the people and development of her constituency, but the people had voted against her.

She vowed to continue serving the people of her constituency in the future.

She said her voters in NA-111 got confused because of rumors spread by her rivals about her withdrawal from the elections. In fact, just 12 hours before the elections, she had quit her candidature for NA-110 to support the PTI candidate. Her decision affected the results in her constituency in NA-111, she said.

AGENDA: PML-N’s Khawaja Muhammad Asif said on Sunday the PML-N government would resume its economical development agenda which it was pursing in the 90s. Talking to the party workers, he said the economical agenda aimed at bringing about economical stability in the country.
