According to a Government of Balochistan spokesman, eight people were killed and 97 injured in a suicide blast targeting the convoy of Balochistan's Inspector General Police Mushtaq Ahmed Sukhera.
The suicide bomber rammed his explosive-laden vehicle into the convoy of police chief when he was about to reach his residence from office. "As IG Police entered his residence, the suicide bomber struck the convoy", Syed Ahmed Mobeen told Dawn.com.
He said four policemen and child were also among the dead.
Mobeen said more than 1000 kilogram of explosives were used in the blast to cause maximum damages.
Most of the injured were civilians who were passing on the road and sitting in nearby houses when the bomber rammed his explosive-laden vehicle in police chief's convoy.
All 97 injured were shifted to CMH hospital Quetta for medical treatment since there was lack of medical facilities in government run civil hospital and Bolan Complex Hospital.
The blast damaged glasses and windowpanes of buildings and houses located quite far away from the site of blast. Loud and powerful blast was heard far and wide and it caused panic among the people.
