KARACHI: Heavy contingents of police cordoned off a warehouse in a Landhi neighbourhood on Sunday evening, arrested seven suspected militants and seized a motorcycle rigged with explosives.
According to police, they received information that some criminals were making a ‘motorcycle bomb’ at a warehouse in the Rice Godown area in Sector 89, Landhi.
“Our moles informed us that explosives are being fitted to a motorcycle which will be used for an attack on some election rally,” Karachi East SSP Imran Shaukat told Dawn.
“We arrested seven suspects and seized an AK-47 assault rifle, a single-barrel gun, a repeater gun, three TT pistols and ammunition,” he said.
Mr Shaukat said a suspicious box strapped to the motorcycle was being examined by the bomb disposal squad.
He said none of the suspects belonged to any political party and investigations were under way to ascertain whether they had links with any militant organisation.
Meanwhile, Karachi West police spotted a suspicious-looking Suzuki Hi-roof parked in Islamia Colony, Pirabad, and found in it seven ‘tennis ball bombs’, a TT pistol and bullets.
