KHAIRPUR, July 19: Mir Munawwar Talpur, central general secretary of the Sindh Hari Committee, claimed on Friday that there was an acute shortage of irrigation water at the tail-end areas of certain minors of the Ghirkinno canal of Sobhodero taluka badly affecting crops due to which farmers had going on token hunger strikes.

Talking to the media he said that there is no irrigation water at the tail-end of the Ghirkinno canal fed by Faiz Nahar Wah and other minors including Tirkino and Imam minor. Faiz Nahar Wah, fed by Khairpur west feeder Abul Wah, irrigates lands of Sobhodero and Gambat talukas. He added that affected growers have been protesting against the shortage during every crop season and last staged a token hunger strike about a week ago but the district administration and the irrigation department have not paid attention to their problems.
