KARACHI: The Pakistan Peoples Party again invited the Muttahida Qaumi Movement on Friday to join the Sindh government and work with it to bring peace and stability in the province.

The offer was made by President Asif Ali Zardari’s pointman Rehman Malik, who called on members of the MQM coordination committee in London, according to a press release issued by the party.

It quoted Senator Malik as saying the MQM and the PPP had worked together in the recent past to promote peace and solidarity and strengthen democratic system and they should join hands again in the larger interest of Sindh.

Members of the coordination committee said that talks between the two parties should continue irrespective of the MQM decision about joining the government.

The meeting also discussed the upcoming presidential election and both sides agreed that the schedule for the election should be reviewed. The election should be held after by-elections for the seats of national and provincial assemblies.

On June 16, a PPP delegation visited MQM headquarters in Karachi and formally invited the party to join its government in Sindh.

Subsequently, the MQM held a referendum on the directive of its chief Altaf Hussain, asking party workers and people whether the party should join the government or not. But, the result of the referendum has not been announced yet.
