ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Peoples Party leader Syed Khurshid Ahmed Shah on Thursday met with Azad Jammu and Kashmir Prime Minister Chaudhry Abdul Majeed and assured the latter of the party's backing in the face of the no trust motion submitted against him in the AJK Legislative Assembly secretariat.

The meeting took place in Islamabad and mainly discussed the no confidence motion brought against Majeed by two ruling Peoples Party (PPAJK) dissidents.

The resolution, submitted on July 22, also proposed the name of Barrister Sultan Mahmood, a top PPAJK leader, as successor of the incumbent premier.

Submitted by Minister for Rehabilitation Abdul Majid Khan and MLA Mohammad Hussain Sargala, the resolution is said to be enjoying the support of around 17-18 members of the ruling coalition along with the entire opposition.

In relation to the motion, 10 cabinet members had also faxed their resignations to the AJK premier on Monday, the day the resolution was submitted in the assembly secretariat.

Chaudhry Abdul Majeed of PPP’s AJK chapter was sworn in as the 11th prime minister of Azad Kashmir in 2011.

He was born in 1948 in the Tangdev village of AJK’s Mirpur district and is a 1969 law graduate from Karachi’s S. M. Law College.
