ABBOTTABAD, July 31: A joint team of Federal Investigation Agency and the Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited on Wednesday sealed a match factory in Haripur for gas theft, arrested its production manager and booked its owners.

Acting on a tip-off, FIA, Hazara assistant director Tariq Pervez, inspector Mushtaq Hussain Shah and SNGPL general manager Ijaz Rehman led a raid on Syed Match Factory and detected illegal gas connection on the premises.

Mr Mushtaq said efforts were underway to ascertain when gas theft from the main pipeline began.

He said the case was registered under sections 462B, 462C, 5(2) PC Act and efforts were to arrest the factory owners.

The FIA inspector said investigation was being conducted to find the involvement of SNGPL staff in one of the major gas theft case in Hazara.

FAKE FACTORY SEALED: Assistant commissioner, Abbottabad Osama Ahmad along with assistant commissioner (UT) Mohammad Ali and the industrial development officer raided a local factory, where iodised salt was packed with storage of some fake juices and mineral water.

Samples of all materials were sent for laboratory test.

The AC, Abbottabad said a case would be registered after the receipt of laboratory test reports of the seized items.

INQUIRY ORDERED INTO DEATH: Hazara commissioner Abid Ali has ordered inquiry into the death of a critically injured patient due to alleged negligence of doctors.

The order was issued during a surprise visit to Haripur District Headquarters Hospital.

The patient had allegedly died the other day of critical injuries due to unavailability of doctors in emergency ward shortly after his arrival on the premises.

The medical superintendent of the hospital was asked to submit complete report in three days.

The commissioner said he would not tolerate dereliction of duty, especially at health facilities, and warned that strict action would be taken against the doctors found negligent.

Later, the commissioner visited different wards of the hospital and asked patients about facilities.

The patients complained about poor services, shortage of drugs and rude behaviour of paramedical staff, especially those staffing emergency ward.

The commissioner gave three days to the medical superintendent and the district health officer to address the people’s problems and ensure availability of doctors at the hospital.
