Peshawar: Peshawarites start cleaning up after Friday's torrential rains which caused huge flash floods, adversely affecting the low lying areas of the capital of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa as well as the remote Chitral Valley where over 60 houses were wiped out and 120 had been damaged.

So far, there have been seven rain-related fatalities. Houses near Peshawar's Charsadda Road and Warsak Roar areas were inundated by the flood water. Though the water has seeped out, the residents of these areas have a hectic weekend ahead of them. Residents are still apprehensive of more rains which are most likely swell the water channels yet again. Authorities say the flood itself can't be so devastating but the encroachments along embankments have made the situation more complex. In some areas, people are still stranded but dwellers from many of the low lying areas have moved to safety. —Text and Images by Zahir Shah Sherazi
