CHITRAL, Aug 7: A girl was killed and five persons were injured when a passenger coach coming to Chitral from Peshawar met an accident at Ziarat village here after crossing the Lowari pass on Wednesday morning.
Chitral police identified the deceased as Salima Bibi of Parwak village who was doing LHV course at Lady Reading Hospital, Peshawar, and was returning to her village on Eid vacations.
The accident occurred due to a technical fault in the vehicle. The injured were discharged from the DHQ hospital, Chitral after treatment, hospital sources said. This was the second traffic accident in the area during the current season.
RELIEF OPERATION: Malakand division commissioner Mohammad Afsar Khan on Wednesday directed the local administration to provide relief to the flood affected people of Kalash valley of Rumbur which has been cut off from other areas as floods washed away the area road.
After attending a briefing here about the losses to public property and physical infrastructure as a result of flash floods, he said no effort should be spared to reopen the road to Rumbur and its adjacent valley Burmuburate valley and that relief items should be provided to the stranded people on emergency basis.
Chitral DC Mohammad Shoaib Jadoon informed the commissioner that Aga Khan Foundation had been requested to provide its helicopter for relief efforts, but due to inclement weather it couldn’t be operated.
Mr Jadoon said the district administration had requested the provincial government to provide Rs30 million to restore the damaged bridges and roads. —Correspondent
