LAHORE, Aug 7: The SOS village (Lahore) has been declared winner in a ‘Friends of Environment’ competition.
The competition was launched in September last to engage and instill healthy environment practices into the children of 10 SOS villages across the country.
The children were asked to come up with environment-friendly slogans/taglines with illustrations. From each SOS village the best entries were chosen by the (SOS) staff and forwarded to a cellular company for final selection of the winner.
The winning SOS village in Lahore won a completely equipped gymnasium as a prize. The equipment includes 50 gymnastic uniforms, two spring boards; five gymnastic sets comprising handgrip, gym ball, gloves, skipping rope, exercise ball etc; 10 floor mats, monkey bars; full length bars; two treadmills, an exercise cycle; four sit boards; music system etc.
Speaking on the occasion here on Wednesday, Ufone Chief Marketing Officer Akbar Khan said: “This activity is a part of our CSR programme that is envisioned by the late Hira Naeem Siddiqi who lost her life in a car accident earlier this year.
The objective of this activity is to educate the children about the importance of a healthy environment and by association educate a large chunk of society. We are pleased to see the enthusiastic participation by all SOS villages.”
SOS village Director Almas Butt expressed her gratitude to the cellular company for donating the gymnasium for students.
The event included briefing on the activity and prize distribution ceremony in which children of SOS village were given bags.
