ISLAMABAD: UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon arrived here on Tuesday on a two-day visit.

Mr Ban, who will be chief guest at the Independence Day flag-hoisting ceremony, will start his visit by performing the inauguration of the Centre for International Peace and Stability at National University of Science and Technology on Tuesday.

He will hold talks with President Asif Ali Zardari, Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, Adviser on Foreign Affairs and National Security Sartaj Aziz and a number of other government functionaries.

A Foreign Ministry official said that talks would cover Kashmir, Indian violations along LoC, situation in Afghanistan and the Middle East.

“Pakistan attaches great significance to the United Nations and accords high importance to the visit of the Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon. During the visit, views will be exchanged on important global and regional issues,” Foreign Office spokesman Aizaz Chaudhry said.

Mr Ban will also meet Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif and attend a briefing at the National Disaster Management Authority.—Staff Reporter
