MINOGRA, Aug 17: Three people, including a child, have tested positive for dengue in Mingora city.

According to the local relevant officials, Matiullah, a 14-year-old resident of Rang Mohallah, Sardar Ali, an official at local Agricultural Development Bank branch, and Mrs Mohammad Amin, a resident of Malookabad area, are the dengue patients.

They said the dengue victims had been shifted to the surveillance unit at the Saidu Sharif Hospital’s medical ward.

When contacted, focal person for the surveillance unit Dr Wasil Khan confirmed the dengue cases and said the condition of three patients was stable and there was nothing to worry about.

He said the patients were brought to the hospital when they were in the initial stage of dengue fever.

Dr Wasil said dengue fever had three stages and in the first, patients complained of fever, headache and muscle and joint pains; in the second, they bled and vomited, and in the third, they became unconscious.

He said he had contacted the provincial health department and World Health Organisation for providing patients of dengue fever with dengue kits.

The focal person said last year, Swat district had reported 28 dengue cases.

CHILD DIES IN ACCIDENT: A child was killed and four women injured on Saturday when a speeding coach hit with their rickshaw in Ningwalai area of Kabal tehsil.

Local police said the accident occurred after the coach’s driver tried in vain to overtake the rickshaw.

They said Farhan, 7, died on the spot, while four women, including Surraya, Shabana, Halima and Nasreen, suffered injuries.

Police said the injured were shifted to a nearby hospital, where they were under treatment.

They said they had registered a case and began investigation.

ATTACK ON TV CHANNEL PROTESTED: Local journalists on Saturday demonstrated in front of Swat Press Club against the attack on a private TV channel offices in Karachi.

Holding placards and shouting slogans, protesters demanded protection of media persons across the country.

Speaking on the occasion, Swat Press Club chairman Rashid Iqbal and Swat Union of Journalists president Hazrat Bilal said journalists condemned the attack on TV channel offices and said journalists had long been targeted by non-state elements.

They demanded early arrest of attackers and protection for journalists in the country.
