CHITRAL, Aug 22: Deputy Inspector General of Police, Malakand Range, Abdullah Khan has said that women desks in police stations of Chitral will help in checking gender-based violence and as such reduce the tendency of suicide among women.

Speaking to media persons during his visit to Chitral here on Thursday, he said that zero tolerance would be shown against drugs while SHOs of local political stations would be punished for their failure to curb the menace.

He said that the situation about the drug peddling would be assessed on weekly basis, as most of the public complaints were about drug pushing in the area.

The DIG said that concrete steps were being taken to reduce the gap between the public and police to promote peace and curb crimes.

He said that traffic problem had worsened due to the influx of a large number of non-custom paid vehicles from Afghanistan and this would be resolved on priority.

PEOPLE’S PROBLEMS: Senior vice-president of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Aurangzeb Khan has said that the top leadership of his party was making efforts to mitigate the sufferings of flood-affected people of Chitral.

He was speaking at a press conference here on Thursday. District leaders of the party, including Said Ahmed and Fazle Rahim, were also present on the occasion.

The PML-N leader said that relief goods donated by the Punjab government had reached Chitral. He said that these items, including tents, kitchenware, medicines etc, would be distributed among the flood-affected persons in Orghoch, Reshun, Garam Chashma and Rumbur.

He said that 30 more trucks carrying relief goods had left Lahore for Chitral. He said that the Punjab government would also lend support to Chitral in the reconstruction phase.
