KARACHI, Aug 26: Fresh from their triumph in the Commissioner Karachi Peace Cup recently, district humbled district East Greens 43-31 to win the seventh National Bank of Pakistan basketball tournament at the Arambagh floodlit court here on Sunday evening.
The trio of Ahad Javeri, Hamza Ali and Ali Ahmed starred contributing 15, 10 and seven points respectively for the winning side who led 22-11 at the interval.
Saifullah shone for the losing side with 15 points followed by Mohsin and Mubashir who scored six apiece.
The success helped South Greens to take a sweet revenge with East Greens who have beaten them in the group B league matches.
Earlier, district East Whites inflicted a 44-35 victory over district Malir Whites to seize third position in the 10-team contest. The winning side led 18-15 at breather.
Talha Amjad shone for the winning side with 22 points and followed by Rashid and Ali Chanzeb who scored six and five respectively.
Shaad Rizvi and Fahad Ahmed each scored 12 points while Waleed scored seven for the losing outfit.
Commissioner Karachi Shoaib Ahmed Siddiqui, who graced the occasion, gave away the prizes. Besides the trophies, he presented a sum of Rs10,000 to the champions, Rs8,000 to the runners-up and Rs6,000 to the third-placed team.
He also gave away cash prizes to Ahad Javeri and Saifullah (Most Valuable Players), Hamza Ali and Shahmir (Most Improved Players), Bilal and Umer Cheema (consolation prizes) and Mahad Tariq and Ali Chanzeb (Most Disciplined Players).
