LAHORE, Aug 27: Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan on Tuesday filed an appeal with the election tribunal for a vote recount in the NA-122 constituency of the Punjab capital.

Khan lost the NA-122 seat to Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) candidate Sardar Ayaz Sadiq, now speaker of the National Assembly, in the general election of May 11.

In the appeal, the PTI chief alleged massive rigging in his constituency by the PML-N candidate. He said the victory of Sadiq was the result of rigging and fake votes. He asked the tribunal to order vote recount through the National Database and Registration Authority (Nadra). The tribunal will take up the appeal in the first week of September.

Hearing another appeal of PTI candidate Hamid Khan for a vote recount in the NA-125 constituency of Lahore, the tribunal summoned all candidates of the constituency on Aug 28.

Khwaja Saad Rafiq of the PML-N was declared winner in the constituency.

Khan pleaded that the PML-N committed irregularities on the day of polling. He said polling agents of PTI were expelled from 200 polling stations and bogus votes were cast in favour of Rafiq.

The appellant urged the tribunal for recount of votes through Nadra so that rigging could be exposed. The tribunal directed all candidates who contested the general election in the NA-125 constituency to appear on Aug 28.

Earlier, returning officers had dismissed identical appeals of PTI leaders.
