ATTOCK, Sept 3: Secretaries of every union council (UC) of the district (there are 72 UCs in Attock) would be responsible for the enrolment of at least 20 children in schools in their respective union councils.

This was decided in a meeting held on Tuesday to review the ongoing enrollment drive. The drive had been initiated on August 14 in all districts of Punjab on the directives of the Punjab chief minister.

The meeting was attended by officials of the district administration, education, health and district monitoring departments. They were informed that 66 schools had been setup under the informal scheme where 491 students had been enrolled.

All children would be given free admissions and no tuition fee would be charged, it was decided. Similarly, enrollment of government employees’ children who were of school going age would be conducted.

The officials of social welfare and labour departments would carry out a survey of children in rural areas who were not attending school. Furthermore, Literacy Day would be observed on September 8 in which importance of education would be highlighted through seminars and walks

The meeting was also informed that recently, several children had been enrolled in schools and educational facilities had been improved even though it was a huge challenge and required tireless efforts.
