KARACHI, Sept 6: Pakistan’s top two players Aqeel Khan and Yasir Khan have confirmed their participation in the Sindh ranking tennis championship which begins at Karachi Gymkhana on Saturday.

The event carries a total prize money of Rs75,000.

Aqeel, who is unarguably one of the best players in the country, has completed a hat-trick of titles in less than a month.

His opponents were different in the three title clashes. First he got past Omar Shahid 6-2, 6-3 on home court to win the men’s singles crown in the Modern Club Founder Members Tennis Championship last month.

In the next, he outplayed Ahmed Chaudhry 6-1, 6-2 to clinch men’s singles crown in the Tajamul Abbas memorial tournament and then sent sibling Yasir Khan packing 6-4, 6-4 to win the third title. Both the Islamabad events were played at the PTF Complex.

Saturday’s fixtures: Men’s singles qualifying round at 10.00am; juniors’ under-17 singles at 11.00am; under-15 singles at 12noon; under-13 and under-11 singles at 2.00pm.—Sports Correspondent
