RAWALPINDI, Sept 8: A businessman from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa was kidnapped from Murree for a ransom of $300,000, police said on Sunday.

Noor Hussain, 30, along with his family had come to the resort town to spend the summer season there. He was strolling on The Mall when he went missing on Tuesday, said the police.

Waris Khan, the elder brother of the victim, complained to the police that he had received a call from an unidentified man saying Noor was in his captivity. He demanded 300,000 dollars for his release, the complainant added.

Though five cases of kidnapping for ransom in Rawalpindi were reported to the police last year, it was first such case in Murree.

When a police investigating officer was asked if any terrorist group was involved in the kidnapping of the businessman, he declined to give details.

He added: “A police team comprising a DSP and the SHO concerned is working on the case.”

The business community in Rawalpindi has already expressed its concerns over the increase in ‘extortion’ cases.

In this regard, they also held a meeting with the city police officer on Thursday.
