SWABI, Sept 20: Senior Alumni Association (SAA) of Islamia College, Peshawar, Islamabad chapter, has demanded of Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf-led Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government to rename the University of Swabi (UoS) as Sir Sahibzada Abdul Qayyum University in recognition of his tremendous services concerning provision of education to the underprivileged Pakhtuns.

Sahibzada Qayyum, who hailed from Topi city of Swabi, founded the Islamia College, Peshawar, in 1913.

Speaking at a function here the other day, the SSA president and Pakistan’s former ambassador to Afghanistan Amir Usman said that naming the UoS after Sahibzada Qayyum would be a great tribute to the founder of Islamia College, who was known as Sir Syed of Sarhad.

“The university established in the home district of the great educationist should be named after him,” he said.

Mr Usman said that the association had already discussed all aspects of the UoS and the senior alumni members wanted that Swabi University should be renamed.

Answering a question, he said that in this regard they had also sent documents to Chief Minister Pervez Khattak, Governor Shaukatullah and Speaker Asad Qaisar. He said they had requested the KP authorities to take practical steps for renaming the UoS. He said that they would also meet the chief minister and governor to discuss the issue.

THREE KILLED: Three people were killed in Topi tehsil here the other day.

In the first incident, a man and his female cousin were shot dead in an honor-related incident in Topi tehsil.

Registering an FIR in Topi police station, Jehanzeb Khan, who belonged to the tribal belt, said that his nephews Gul Nabi and Shahid Khan opened fire on his son Pervaiz Khan, killing him on the spot.

He said that the two accused later gunned down their sister and escaped. Mr Jehanzeb said that his nephews suspected that their sister had illicit relations with his son.

When contacted, the police said that the accused might have gone to the tribal belt as they could not be found during search in the area.

In the second incident, a man was killed by his rivals in Topi city. The police said that one Rab Nawaz was going to market when his rivals attacked him. He later succumbed to his injuries on way to hospital.

The Topi city police have registered an FIR against accused Ziyad Khan and Tariq Khan.
