NAIROBI: Some 20 people have been killed and about 50 wounded Saturday in an attack by gunmen on a shopping mall in Nairobi, the Kenya Red Cross said.
“I can say the new toll is about 20 with about 50 injured,” Red Cross chief Abbas Gullet told AFP from the scene of the attack.
An eyewitness told AFP the gunmen were speaking in a foreign language, possibly Arabic or Somali, and were seen executing a number of shoppers.
“They were not speaking Swahili. They spoke something that seemed like Arabic or Somali, but I'm not sure as I don't speak those languages,” the witness, who only wanted to give his first name, Jay, told AFP after fleeing the mall.
“I saw people being executed after being asked to say something,” he said, adding had seen 11 dead bodies inside the mall.
