EVER since the establishment of Islami Jamiat-i-Talaba in December 1947, the University of Punjab has remained a hostage in the hands of this student organisation’s alleged militant outfit.

The University of Punjab is the largest and the most prestigious institution of our country, but, only God knows how and why it fell prey to this student organisation that is dragging it back to the stone age.

It is obvious that the IJT would never accept the news of its connections with Al Qaeda or some other terrorist groups, but every one on the campus knows the fact. Heaps of sophisticated firearms are piled in the hostel where the university’s IJT activists reside.

The IJT nazim is reportedly the most feared person on the campus. Although the state machinery is aware of this, nothing is done in this regard. God knows why?

Every other day a student or some administrative staff member of the university is viciously beaten by this student-cum-militant organisation but only heaven knows why incidents are never brought into limelight.

The state has failed to save the prestigious institution or the university administration has succumbed to the bullies. Whatever the reason be, education is suffering and so is the state.
