SWABI, Sept 24: The annual inter-schools sports competition in Swabi district would start from October 10 wherein students of high and higher secondary schools will vie for top honours in different games.

In this regard a meeting was held in government high school, Chota Lahor, on Tuesday to finalise arrangements for the competitions. District education officer Siraj Mohammad presided over the meeting which was attended by principals, headmasters, physical education teachers (PETs) of schools and leaders of All Teachers Association.

Syed Nusair Bacha has been nominated as district sports general secretary and Adil Mohammad district sports secretary. The games are scheduled to be held from Oct 10 to Nov 15. Tehsil sports secretaries have also been nominated.

The participants of the meeting highlighted the importance of games and urged the educational institutions to introduce national and regional games within the framework of the adopted education system to produce a healthy society.

They called for provision of sports facilities to the students so that they could continue healthy activities along with their education.

Mr Siraj said that every possible step should be taken by the district executive sports committee and games in-charges to ensure provision of a peaceful environment to the players.

He said that the PETs should prepare effective rules and schedule for various competitions among the students of high and higher secondary schools.

To smoothly hold the games the district has been divided in eight zones, which include Swabi, Salim Khan, Tordher, Khunda, Yar Hussain, Razaar, Topi and Gadoon. Competitions would first be held at zone level and then at district, divisional and provincial level.

“The students who will win games at provincial level would compete at national level,” Mr Nusair said and added that the schools served as nursery in promotion of various regional and national games. —Correspondent
