Hafeez ‘comfortable’ with Razzaq, Malik

Pakistan’s Twenty20 captain Mohammad Hafeez reiterated that he was ‘comfortable’ playing alongside Shoaib Malik and Abdul Razzaq should they make the cut for the squad that takes on South Africa next month.

“I have always said that I would respect the selectors and the team that they give me. As a captain, it is up to me to get the best of the players that I am given and the fact that we have moved from nine to the second spot in the Twenty20 world rankings is evidence of the fact.”

Pakistan’s out-of-favour allrounder Abdul Razzaq had openly criticised Hafeez’s captaincy and blamed the latter for keeping him out of the team last year, an outburst which earned Razzaq a one lakh rupees fine from the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB).

But PCB’s caretaker chairman Najam Sethi recently gave a lifeline to Razzaq, advising him to perform in the Quaid-e-Azam Trophy to be considered for the upcoming South Africa series.

Commenting on the issue Hafeez said, “Whoever is selected will be representing Pakistan, and we will all to play and perform as a team.”

Hafeez, the number one-ranked allrounder in ODIs and number three in T20s, all admitted that his form with the bat in Test matches was a bit of a worry and was working on fixing his flaws but would accept the decision of the selectors should they choose to drop him.

“I am just one big inning away from being settled in the format. But the selectors' job is to pick the best team for Pakistan, if they think my place is there in the team, they will pick me, otherwise I will accept their decision.”
