SKARDU Sept 25: The two-day 9th ‘Dawn in Education Spelling Bee Competition’ concluded here at Mashabrum Hotel on Wednesday when winners of the age group 15-17 were also decided. Over 200 children from 30 different schools of Skardu district took part in this competition.
Bushra Ishaq and Urooj Fatima of Public School and College, girls campus, and Syeda Abida Begum of F.G. College for Women secured first, second and third positions, respectively, in the age group of 15-17 in the regional championship of Dawn in Education Spelling Bee Competition.
On Tuesday, the competitions were held among children of the age groups 9-11 and 12-14.
Speaking at the concluding ceremony as chief guest, Skardu Press Club president Nisar Abbas thanked the Dawn Media Group and other partner organisations for arranging the spelling bee competitions in this remote area.
He said that the students of Baltistan lacked opportunities to participate in such educational competitions, while the Dawn Media Group had been providing this facility to students here for the last three years.
The spelling bee competitions were witnessed by former deputy chief executive, Gilgit Baltistan, Fida Mohammad Nashad, teachers of various colleges and schools of the region, parents and hundreds of students and notables of the city.
Talking to Dawn, the first position holder in the age group of 15-17 Bushra Ishaq said that she would endeavour to get the title of national champion of spelling bee competition in Islamabad.
