The name Saleem Elahi may not a ring bell for too many people but for Pakistani fans who witnessed his debut against Sri Lanka in 1995, the batsman was another of a long list of players who showed great promise before fading away.
Elahi, who smashed 102 not out against Sri Lanka in his first game in international cricket, played 48 matches for Pakistan and in a Calypso, not-so-much feet movement fashion clubbed three more centuries and nine fifties.
Here Elahi, who last appeared for the national team in 2004, combines with Abdul Razzaq to maul South Africa in a 257-run second wicket stand, the second highest for Pakistan in ODIs. Pakistan put up 335 courtesy of the partnership in the 2nd ODI of their series against South Africa before bowling out the hosts for 153 in Port Elizabeth in 2002.
