SUKKUR, Oct 8: The 9th Dawn in Education National Spelling Bee 2013 Competition, Sukkur round, organised by the Dawn Media Group in collaboration with the Institute of Business and Administration (IBA), Sukkur, and the Shah Abdul Latif University (SALU), Khairpur, was held in the IBA auditorium here on Tuesday.

More than 200 students from various schools in Sukkur, Jacobabad, Naushahro Feroze, Khairpur, Ranipur, Pannu Aqil, Ghotki, Mirpur Mathelo and Daharki participated in the competition.

The contestants were divided into four pools, each consisting of three age groups: 9-11, 12-14 and 15-17 years.

The competition, held in a disciplined manner, started at 10.30am and concluded at 3.30pm.

The audience took a keen interest in the questions, which most contestants answered quickly and amazed them as well as the judges.

The judges for the Sukkur round were Sukkur IBA Director Nisar Ahmed Siddiqui (chief judge), Raheela Baqai and Samuel Ray. SALU Shikarpur Director Lutufullah Mangi was the guest of honour.

Certificates and prizes were distributed among the participants at the end of the event.

The winner of the Sukkur round will participate in the Karachi Regional Championship to be held on Nov 18.

The national round will be held in Lahore.
