SRINAGAR, Oct 11: An Indian soldier was killed in fighting with suspected militants who allegedly infiltrated into India-held Kashmir from the Pakistani side of Line of Control.

The Indian troops and ‘militants’ exchanged gunfire on Thursday night close to the LoC, an Indian army officer said on Friday.

There was no independent confirmation of his claim.

The area where the shootout was reported is close to the region where Indian soldiers were recently engaged in fighting with suspected militants for nearly two weeks. Eight insurgents were killed and six Indian soldiers wounded in those battles, according to the Indian army.—AP
