PM chairs high-level meeting on national security

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif on Tuesday chaired a high-level meeting on the security situation prevailing in the country.

According to a statement issued here by the prime minister’s office, the meeting reviewed the overall security situation in the country.

The meeting was attended by Federal Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan, prime minister’s Adviser on National Security and Foreign Affairs Sartaj Aziz, and Special Assistant to prime minister Tariq Fatemi.

Chief of Army Staff Gen Ashfaq Parvez Kayani and Director General of Inter Services Intelligence (ISI) Lt Gen Zaheerul Islam also attended the meeting.

Sources told DawnNews that the prime minister’s upcoming trip to the United States and the process of peace talks with militants were also discussed during the high-level session.

Based on the players in the room it's unlikely that this group is capable of coming up with a subject that hasn't been raised with the American's a hundred times in the past. Word on the street is that Obama has a poor opinion of Pakistan and has refused to even talk to a Pakistani since he notified Zardari of OBL death. It's likely that trying to talk about issues which have been discussed ad nauseam will result in a short meeting and maybe the last meeting while Obama holds office.

@Dr. Pervez Zaheer: Yes, exactly true that this PM was elected by the MNA`s belonging to Punjab as PML N won most of the seats in Punjab as they failed to win anything prominent in other three provinces. That is the worst aspect of the democracy as this person became the Prime Minister who for sure failed earlier two times to deliver anything concrete for the country and for the country. This Prime Minister can not even walk in the other provinces other than Punjab. Pakistan is seeing right now the most minority government with the mandate coming only from Punjab for this Prime Minister.
