BAHAWALPUR, Oct 18: The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has restored the election tribunal of Bahawalpur.

A spokesperson for the ECP said a decision to this effect had been taken in Islamabad recently.

They said relevant authorities were considering nominating a judge for the tribunal and his nomination and posting orders would pave the way for making the tribunal functional.

The tribunal had been abolished about a fortnight ago without telling any reason by ECP officials.

Bahawalpur High Court Bar Association Local president Tariq Shafi, secretary-general Shahid Siddiqui and petitioners, whose election petitions were pending with the tribunal, had reacted sharply and demanded its immediate restoration.

APPOINTED: Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif has appointed Aftab Peerzada as managing director of the Cholistan Development Authority (CDA).

Aftab Peerzada’s name was recommended by local MPs to the chief minister during his last week’s visit to Noorsar, a location proposed for the establishment of the Quaid-i-Azam solar energy park.

Mr Peerzada, who was till recently working as director revenue and colonies CDA, is the son-in-law of Federal Minister for Inter-Provincial Coordination Mian Riaz Hussain Peerzada.

Funds of millions of rupees for Cholistan had lapsed and work on several projects suspended because of lying of post vacant for five months.

RECREATION: A good number of people, including women and children, visited recreational places such as on banks of the Sutlej river, Lal Sohanra Park and the local zoo on the second and third days of Eidul Azha.

The people reached the Lal Sohanra Park on their own vehicles and stayed there before sunset on both days.
