2 policemen killed in Karachi attack

KARACHI: Two more police officers were shot dead in targeted attacks by unidentified terrorists on Wednesday, taking the death toll of policemen to 142 over the past 10 months in Karachi alone.

The two policemen were identified as Head Constables Qazi Aalam and Javed. Their injured colleague was identified as Nadeem.

On Oct 9, SHO of Sir Syed Police Station, Syed Irfan Haider, and Station Investigation Officer (SIO) of the New Karachi Police Station, Sub-Inspector Shahbaz Ali, were targeted in North Karachi.

Dozens of people were also killed during the same period as an orgy of violence continued to plague the commercial capital of the country.

One alleged attacker was also killed in the latest attack, which took place in the city’s SITE area, when one of the injured policemen returned fire. The name of the attacker killed in the shooting could not be known till late in the night.

The policemen were sitting at a restaurant in Metroville, SITE area, for dinner when terrorists attacked them, said SSP Karachi-West Irfan Baloch.

Two police head constables were killed while a third policeman was injured. One of the attackers was also killed after the injured policemen opened fire, the police officer said.

Other attackers escaped.

The dead and injured were taken to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital.
