SUKKUR, Nov 3: Participants in a multi-party conference organised by the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz in Ghotki on Sunday criticised the delimitation process being carried out in the district, saying that it was partial to the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP).
The conference was attended by leaders and representatives of about 40 different political, nationalist and religious parties, and other organisations.
The speakers criticised the delimitation in Ghotki district and alleged that it was being carried out by the district administration to suit feudal lords and appease PPP leaders.
They said it seemed that the delimitation was carried out according to the aspirations of the Ghotki deputy commissioner and other officials of the district administration who had become part of the PPP.
They carried out the process through their subordinates so the PPP candidates could win the upcoming local bodies’ polls, they alleged.
They declared that the new constituencies were not acceptable to them at any cost and they would launch a movement against it.
Schedule for hearing objections
Meanwhile, Karachi commissioner Shoaib Ahmad Siddiqui issued the schedule for hearing complaints registered regarding delimitation in five districts of Karachi division.
The commissioner would begin hearing complaints from Nov 5 in his office. He would begin hearing complaints regarding Malir district at 10:30am followed by objections regarding district Central at 2pm.
Hearing of complaints regarding district South is schedule for 11:30am on Nov 6 and the next day at 10am he would listen to objections filed regarding district West.
The commissioner advised all complainants to be present for hearing in his office situated at Four Club Road, opposite Karachi Gymkhana.
LARKANA: Assistant commissioner Larkana Ameer Ali Meerani, who is also the focal person for receiving the objections, announced that Larkana commissioner Dr Saeed Ahmed Mangejo would begin hearing objections from November 4 and the process would continue till November 9.
Dr Mangnejo, who was made the appellate authority even after reservations expressed by the Pakistan Muslim League-Functional (PML-F) and other political parties, would hold the hearing on Nov 4 from 9am to 5pm in the office of the Shikarpur deputy commissioner and also take up applications of Garhi Yasin and Lakhi talukas and Kandhkot-Kashmore district.
On Nov 5 and 6, Dr Mangnejo would be in Larkana to decide objections regarding delimitation in Kambar-Shahdadkot and Larkana districts.
Likewise he would sit in the office of the deputy commissioner Shikarpur to take up the applications from Kandhkot-Kashmor district.
Assistant commissioner Meerani advised those who had filed objections to be present during the hearings.
So far in Larkana division, 328 objections have been filed regarding delimitation. Out of them, some 110 objections were filed regarding delimitation in Larkana district, 32 for Kambar-Shahdadkot district, 90 for Shikarpur district, 20 for Jacobabad district and 76 for Kandhkot-Kashmor district, according to figures obtained from the office of Larkana assistant commissioner.
Most of the objections revolve around redrawing limits of the old union councils, committees, wards and annexing them with far away union councils. The second most common complaint is of missing localities and dehs from constituencies while a number of people have also complained about including villages and dehs of a district with another one.
However, interestingly, so far no one has turned up to file any objection on annexing Sachal Colony, Professor’s Colony and posh areas of Larkana with rural union council Phull, six kilometres from Larkana city.
