ISLAMABAD: A moderate five magnitude earthquake struck eastern Pakistan Wednesday, with tremors felt in several cities, but officials said there were no immediate reports of damage or casualties.

The quake was felt in several eastern cities including Lahore, Kasur, Okara and Sialkot, he said.

The epicentre was in northern India at a depth of 50 kilometres, regional meteorological chief Muhammad Riaz told news agency AFP.

Pakistan was hit by a 7.6-magnitude earthquake on October 8, 2005, that killed more than 73,000 people and left about 3.5 million homeless, mainly in Pakistan-administered Kashmir and parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

A 7.7-magnitude earthquake devastated several areas, including Awaran in southwestern Balochistan province, in September. It killed at least 376 people and left some 100,000 others homeless.
