LAHORE, Nov 11: A new polio case surfaced in Sahiwal on Monday as a 15-month-old baby boy was tested positive for the crippling virus.

The health department confirmed the new polio case on the basis of the report issued by the National Institute of Health (NIH), Islamabad.

Punjab Expanded Programme on Immunization (EPI) Director Dr Munir Ahmad told Dawn the patient, Abdul Rehman, belonged to union council 41 of the district and was sixth baby in the province who faced life-long disability due to the disease.

He said the total number of the polio cases reported all over the country this year had reached 62.

Another health official said all the six babies who were tested positive for the virus were said to be vaccinated by the departmental teams against polio.
