KABUL: Nato says a service member has died following an insurgent attack in southern Afghanistan.

The service member died Wednesday as a result of a roadside explosion that occurred a day earlier in the volatile southern regions where Taliban insurgents launch regular attacks.

In keeping with Nato policy the service member's nationality was not released.

The majority of the soldiers serving in southern Afghanistan are American or British.

While Afghanistan's security has been handed over to its National Security Forces ahead of the 2014 withdrawal of international combat troops, Nato and US forces routinely assist their Afghan allies.
