THATTA, June 8: The widow of an employee of the Pakistan International Airlines has threatened to commit self-immolation if the PIA did not stop “step-motherly” attitude with the bereaved family and extend help in tracking down the killers of her husband.

Niaz Hussain Bhutto, sales manager of the PIA, Nawabshah, was shot dead in Daulatpur Colony, Nawabshah, on June 3.

Speaking at a press conference in the Daro town here on Sunday, his widow, Dr Hamida Niaz Bhutto, deplored that the police, instead of properly investigating the case, were distorting the case by giving an impression that her husband was killed by thieves when he offered resistance to them. She said she did not believe that her husband was killed by thieves on his resistance. She said he had identified the killer and tried to reveal his name but failed.

She further said she suspected some vested interests were behind concealing the facts.

She regretted that PIA authorities neither contacted the family nor they extended any cooperation to the family.

Dr Hamida said her husband was a dedicated employee of the PIA having a good service record for streamlining the work at Turbat and Nawabshah airports.

She said he had helped track down a number of drug traffickers in Turbat and created enmities. She said he had also developed jealousies among his counterparts and added that the possibility of eliminating him by his colleagues could not be ruled out.

She said she would commit self-immolation in front of the PIA chairman’s office in Karachi if she was not provided with justice.
