KARACHI, Nov 19: Islamabad and Quetta recorded their first victories of the season by handing comprehensive defeats to Lahore Shalimar and Faisalabad, respectively in the Quaid-i-Azam Trophy National Cricket Championship on Tuesday.

Islamabad overwhelmed Lahore Shalimar by 181 runs at the Diamond Club Ground in Islamabad. The visitors who began the day 24-2 while chasing 376 managed just 194 in the second innings despite tailender Mohammad Saeed’s 60. Paceman Shehzad Azam Rana took 4-62.

Quetta cantered to a 121-run triumph by dismissing Faisalabad for 209 in the second innings at the Iqbal Stadium where the home side resumed their chase for 331 runs at 33-2. Quetta captain Gohar Faiz and pace partner Faizullah shared nine wickets in the second with Gohar grabbing five for 81 and Faizullah 4-58.

Rawalpindi consolidated their lead at top of Group-I when they chalked up a four-wicket win over Sialkot at the Jinnah Stadium in Sialkot. Needing 186 after bowling the hosts for 214, Awais set up Rawalpindi’s third success with a solid 79.

The day’s other winners were Multan who lost two wickets in making 60 they had needed to beat Hyderabad at the Multan Cricket Stadium in Multan. It was Multan’s second victory in the championship.

The remaining two fixtures were drawn with Peshawar and Bahawalpur taking first-innings’ points against Abbottabad and Lahore Shalimar, respectively.
