KHYBER AGENCY: Seven teachers, who worked as volunteers during the recent anti-polio vaccination campaign conducted in the region, were kidnapped from a private in Sipah area of Bara in Khyber tribal region on November 21, officials confirmed today.

A political administration official told Dawn.com that seven teachers of a private school had been kidnapped on November 21, who though had not been involved in the polio drive but had facilitated the polio teams at their private school in Sipah area.

"These workers, rather teachers were taken away from private Hira Public School on November 21," Assistant political Agent Bara Nasir Khan said

He added the volunteers had been picked up by the unknown kidnappers for allowing polio vaccination in their school, which is managed by a charity Khidmat Khalq Committee.

"They were not directly related to polio vaccination but had supported the workers as volunteers during the recent vaccination drive and that’s why they had been kidnapped," he added.

Talking about the efforts for their release, Nasir Khan said: "The government has not yet intervened as Khidmat Khalq Committee is trying to settle the issue and a jirga led by their elder Turab Ali is tmaking efforts to recover the abductees."

We are waiting for the release of workers through tribal methods, so they are not harmed, he added.
